ELCANO, JOURNEY TO HISTORY

No one had asked them to go around the world.

Tomás Mazón brings to the reader, layman or expert, the voices of Elcano and his own, which come to us through chronicles, relationships and other files written five hundred years ago, to tell an epic journey, full of dangers, sacrifices and threats, but also of bravery, honor and great skill.

This essay brings together various documents and normally unknown testimonies that clarify, deny and qualify many data and episodes that are usually taken for granted.

It's not just that this book is well documented and scientifically sound. It is also that its author, with great literary pulse, embarks us with those sailors and makes us regret their mistakes, grieve for their sufferings, rejoice at their good events and be proud of their successes as if they were our own. It will be very difficult that when turning the last page the reader does not see with affection, like old friends, not Elcano and Magellan, but all the adventurers who accompanied them ». Braulio Vázquez Campos (General Archive of the Indies).
